Football clubs across Sussex have been told they can abandon matches without the need for pitch inspections, but league bosses called for common sense decisions.

With snow continuing to fall across the county, the Sussex County League has issued special guidance ahead of this weekend’s round of fixtures.

In an e-mail to officials of all clubs, SCFL vice chairman Steve Nealgrove said: “It has been agreed that a common sense approach needs to prevail and we are giving clubs the opportunity to carry out inspections on Friday afternoon should your club feel the fixture for Saturday is in serious doubt of going ahead.

“If due to disruption the match referee (or appointed inspecting SCFL referee) is unable to travel to carry out an inspection then we are prepared to allow clubs to mutually agree to a postponement today or tomorrow without the need for a pitch inspection, but this only if the visiting club have major travelling concerns, but you must speak to the match referee before a final decision is made.

“If you feel there is a possibility that your pitch could be playable on Saturday then we ask that you delay the decision until Saturday morning.”
