Ansty and Lindfield play out a derby draw

Ansty and Lindfield drew in a division 2 local derby.

Having won the toss Ansty elected to bat and openers Leo Anderson and Tom Woodall (15) put on 79 for the first wicket. Two more fell with the score at 94, Anderson being one of them for 63.

Jamie Newsome was again in form with his 40 but a swift 52 not out by Jack Palser enabled the visitors to declare on 235-9. Simon Shivarine took 3-42. Lindfield recovered from being 28-4 to reach 189-7 at close of play thanks to Declan Martel (61), Tem Hodson (34) and Alex Borley (30), the match ending in a draw.

Anderson followed his batting with 2-32 and Jake Wilson 2-38.

2nd XI

Visitors Haywards Heath won the toss and batted but found themselves 65-5. A partnership of 87 between Ben Matthew (23) and Ben Morris (60) recovered the situation to help Heath to 196 all out.

Charlie Rutter took 4-35.

Ansty’s reply began badly losing two wickets for just 7. At 58-5 the innings was similar to Heath’s. The sixth wicket also followed the trend set by the visitors realising 75 between Jake Brooks (59) and James Smethurst ((41). However Ansty’s batting fell short at 160. Josh Menzies took 5-37 for Haywards Heath.

3rd XI

Ansty asked Streat & Westmeston to bat first and lost two wickets at 25. Runs were not easy to come by off the Ansty attack and Streat were finally all out for 149.

Ansty also lost wickets regularly but opener Megan Janman held the innings together being eighth out for 82. Ken Chapman contributed 20 and Tom Peberdy 13 but it was left to Shaun Janman to score the winning run off the last ball of the match hitting the ball for six.

4th XI

An under strength 4th XI travelled to East Grinstead who having won the toss elected to bat. Top Scorer was Bhavesh Patel with 88no assisted by Simon Cannell (68) and 33 from Mark Wills to set 244-7.

Peter Fowles took 4-48 and Dom Mamoany 3-70.

The reply by Ansty was a resolute unbroken partnership of 134 between openers Vince Rolandi (49no) and Steve Jarvis (59no) to secure a draw.
