GEL, it's so swell..' so say the lyrics of the latest musical production by Southwick Players Youth (SPY).
GEL, written by Malcolm Sircom, has been compared with two other great musicals, Grease and West Side Story.

Set in the present the story centres around The Meadowlands Youth Theatre who are putting on their latest show.

Besides the usual teenage problems - observed with amusement by the younger members - they have to contend with the pressures of rehearsing and the unwelcome attentions of a street gang who do their best to wreck all their efforts.

The director, Sharon Watts, said she had thoroughly enjoyed working on the show.

"At first I thought I must be totally potty taking on a show with so many children but it has been absolutely fantastic. With 50 different characters the story is fast paced and absorbing and the kids have worked very hard, we are all so proud of them."

Suitable for the whole family, you can catch the action at The Barn Theatre, Southwick, from Wednesday (July 23) to Saturday, July 26. The show starts at 7.30pm and tickets are £10 available from the box office on 01273 597094/592819 or online via www.southwickplayers.org.uk.
