Regarding one of the pictures in Crawley History (The day they demolished the railway station, August 6)there were two clues to the correct date of this photo as being in the 1950s.

Third electrified rail was not laid until the 1930s; the locomotive number (41301) identifies it as a BR Midland Region Tank Locomotive built in the early 1950s. BR Southern Region Locomotive numbers always began with 3.

Sorry for being a bit of an anorak but I have always been interested in railways, right from the time as a train spotter when I lived in London in the 1950s.
