LETTER: Objectives of a judicial review

Have your say

Referring to your report on the North Horsham Parish Council (NHPC) meeting (WSCT Sept 10), on a proposal to spend up to £30,000 of taxpayers’ money on a Judicial Review (JR): the proposal is to contest HDC’s plan for thousands of dwellings to be built north of the A264.

Cllr Rickett asked some pertinent questions, but it seems, got inadequate answers. Surely residents are entitled to know what they are likely to get for their money.

There are many examples where £10,000s have been spent on a JR, with little or no benefit to the sponsors. So those who are pressing for expenditure on the JR, should enlighten us as to i) their project objectives, ii) how HDC’s Planning Framework might be changed, as a result of the JR and iii) how Liberty’s plans are likely to be affected if the JR is successful?

Needless to say, the developer is likely to have much more legal firepower, than NHPC.

Since the JR is being pushed by a group of HD Councillors (from the North) who are both district and parish councillors, one wonders if they might be pursuing a motion that they lost in the council chamber – to defeat the NH development. If so, then perhaps they should declare an interest when they come to speak at NHPC meetings?
