Young gymnasts celebrate success in competition

Waiting for Video...

In the recent South East Region Schools Floor and Vault Competition held in Gravesend, Kent, Rudgwick Primary School led the field with their three teams winning two Golds and a Silver
 medal.

Rudgwick boys team won the U11 Regional Level boys competition with a very young team, two of whom were in their first competition.

The girls secured the Silver medal in the U11 regional girls’ team competition in a very competitive group.

The Rudgwick U11 Mixed Team took the Gold medals in a strong field and is now set to represent the South East England Region in the National Finals to be held in Stoke on Trent, in May.

For seven of the gymnasts this follows a previous success in the Team Trio Competition held in December and their selection to National Finals to be held in March.

The judges remarked on the strong performances from all the teams and their consistency with high scores on both floor and vault.

Gymnastics coach Alison Thompson said: “The children had worked extremely hard to prepare for the competition and showed great competitiveness on the day.

“Their commitment and sporting attitude is commendable and made me very proud.”

The 15 gymnasts were selected from the school gymnastics club which has a total of 65 children participating over four sessions a week.

Financially, the travelling to competitions and overnight stay, as well as competition leotards is a huge financial commitment for parents of these gymnasts.

If there is any company which feels it could sponsor Rudgwicks’ gymnasts, it would be hugely appreciated. Please contact the office at Rudgwick Primary School tel 01403 822151 or email office@rudgwick.w-sussex.sch.uk
