TRADERS in Steyning are already busy fundraising for this year’s Christmas lights.

An auction is being held at The White Horse, in High Street, on Thursday, October 17, with all proceeds going to the lights.

Shops and businesses in the town are being asked to donate auction items and residents are urged to go along and bid.

Julie Belton, chairman of Steyning and District Business Chamber, said: “So often these events are supported by the same people and it would be lovely to see some new faces at the event – please come along and support this event.”

Businesses willing to make a contribution to the auction are asked to contact Julie. Email chair@steyningchamber.co.uk or telephone 07778 398702.

She added: “Christmas is approaching quickly and we have started to plan for both the Christmas lights and the late-night shopping event on Wednesday, December 4.

“Traders in the High Street have been approached for auction items but if any other businesses would like to contribute, please let me know. ”

The chamber will soon be sending out forms for those wishing to have a stall at the late-night Christmas shopping, which is always a popular event in the town, featuring market stalls, choirs, bands and, of course, Father Christmas.

Raffle prizes are also needed, to raise money to pay for entertainment on the night, etc.

Julie said: “We hope you will support our bid to raise money to put on Steyning Christmas lights again this year.”
