THE winner of the Adur chairman’s Christmas card competition 2013, run in conjunction with the Herald, has been chosen.

Winter Sunshine, a photograph of people heading to St Mary de Haura Church in Shoreham, is now being turned into a Christmas card to be sent out by Adur Council chairman Mike Mendoza.

The winner, Cyril Crouch from Shoreham Beach, said it had been a surprise to hear his picture was chosen.

He added: “I can only say I was very pleased to win my first photo competition in Shoreham itself since enjoying photograph and lighting over a good number of years now.”

A total of 41 photographs were submitted for judging by Mr Mendoza, Herald chief photographer Stephen Goodger and Jim Cunliffe from Face Media Group, which is printing the cards.

Mr Mendoza had specified he wanted a winter scene, preferably featuring a Shoreham landmark.

Many featured St Mary’s Church, while other sites included Mill Hill, St Nicolas Church, the old footbridge, the Red Lion pub and Shoreham Beach.

He said it had been a difficult choice deciding the winner.
