As Crawley recovers from the battering of last night’s storms, the Met Office has warned more bad weather is on the way.
A lull in the rain and wind has been forecast for Christmas Day and Boxing before the rain returns on Friday (December 27).
Roads and homes in Crawley were flooded and trees brought down as heavy winds hit the town last night (December 23/24) and almost 30mm of rain fell.
UK Power Networks said some 6,903 customers in Sussex were left without power along with 17,150 in Surrey.
Among those affected were people in Pinetrees Close, Copthorne.
Neighbours pulled together when a bungalow was flooded.
Neighbour Roz Loftus said people drove water out of the building with brooms and sandbags and worked for several hours to try to keep the flood water back.
Water pumps were eventually sourced and three were working through the night to pump the water directly into a storm drain.
Another example of community spirit came when flood water poured into homes in Ifield Green.
Some 50 people used buckets and pumps to drain the water.
