Chairman Peter Averillo said he was very pleased with the attendance and the positive feedback.

“There were a number of acts on throughout the day and that went very well,” he said. “People enjoyed it and even with the closing act, it was still quite a large attendance.”

Visitors took the chance to learn to jive with Brighton Jive and Peter said it was so popular, many were asking for shows to be put on on a more regular basis.

He added: “It was a great start and the chance to really move forward and get established again. After more than 13 years, we have now finally got our community centre in full.

“It is a shame we had to have two court cases to get the building completed, which is a waste of time and money that should have been spent on the community.

“A couple of people came up and said we had done a good job and well done on keeping going and getting what you have got.

“The community of Fishersgate has been poorly served in the past and hopefully now we can all move forward and start working together.”

Volunteer help will always be required for a number of aspects through the centre, he said, and he hoped people would come on board.

Peter added: “It is a community facility, it belongs to the community and it is up to them to ensure its safety and that it keeps on going.”
