MEMBERS of a Durrington gym took part in a tennis ‘marathon’ for Children in Need on Friday.
The marathon, held at David Lloyd Gym and Fitness Centre, in Romany Road, involved 96 people taking it in turns to play doubles matches from 8am-8pm.
Participants were entitled to a 10 minute break every two hours.
Event organiser, Graham Avinou, said: “This is a fantastic event, supported by the club and a number of local employers. Everyone gets involved – coaches, juniors, players and non-players alike. Last year we raised £2,400 and we are looking to exceed this figure this year.”
First team ladies captain and co-organiser Pippa Pinn, Tony Menday, Karen Osbourne-Shaw and David Leader all gave up a day’s work to play a full 12 hours.
Speaking on the day, head tennis coach at David Lloyd Tony Doolan said: “It is going really well and really smoothly. They are very enthusiastic. It is all good fun and played in good sport.”
He added the participants had done extremely well.
