PARTS of a 230-year-old tree collapsed in Steyning in the early hours on Friday.
Branches of the horse chestnut smashed on to the driveway of a house in High Street, narrowly missing the building and four cars.
Although no-one was hurt and nothing was damaged, the fallen branches meant the cars were trapped in, on the day the family had to drive to York.
Karon and Mark Foxwell were taking their 21-year-old daughter Bella back to university for her final year and it was essential they went that day.
They had to hire a car and load up via the back entrance, as the tree made it impossible to get past.
