Crawley Town manager John Gregory praised his team for responding well to their defeat to Bradford by putting in a competitive showing in the daunting surroundings of Bramall Lane.
It took a remarkable goal by talented scorer Jose Baxter to settle a game which could have gone to either side.
He said: “One goal, one superb strike. It was an excellent goal that ended up winning the match.
“That is probably the best performance since I came to the club.
“Sheffield got booed off at half-time and there were boos when they came off at the end and that tells me something.
“I thought every player on our team played particularly well and we had opportunities to score and we should have definitely come in at half-time ahead.
“We lost our momentum at half-time and didn’t start very well in the second half and that’s when Utd scored.
“We played our way back into the game and had chances to score throughout the game.”
Gregory added: “I was delighted with the overall performance and we should take heart from that and take it into the rest of the season.”
