Storms swept across Sussex last night and in the early hours of this morning (Saturday, July 25).

Thunder and lightning lit up the sky for much of yesterday evening (Friday, July 24) but it was the heavy rain and high wind that caused the most damage.

In Gorse Avenue, Worthing, a tree was blown down by the gales, landing on top of a parked car at around 1am this morning.

While Sussex can expect to see sunshine with isolated showers today, heavy rain and strengthening southerly winds are predicted for most of Sunday (July 26), according to the Met Office.
