He praised his youngsters Charles Banya, Emmett O’Connor and Bobson Bawling and both his defence and goalkeeper Brian Jensen for keeping a second clean sheet in a row.

Gregory said: “I have to congratulate my players - they never gave up they continued to carry on. They showed a lot of passion, effort and enthusiasm and if they passed the ball a little bit better I’d be happier tonight.

“Once or twice Ipswich could have punished us - in the first half which I would have expected Izale Mcleod to have scored it and also against the crossbar.

“We rode our luck a bit.

“Defensively we were very sound. Brian Jensen kept a clean sheet which was the most pleasing thing for me tonight.

“We defended resolutely and solidly and sent ourselves through to the next round.”
