ONE lane remains closed on the A27 eastbound near Chichester after a crash this evening (July 9).

There are conflicting reports on the number of vehicles involved, with West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service saying three and Sussex Police saying two.

An eyewitness described one car as ‘completely destroyed’ and firefighters have said one casualty was receiving oxygen at the scene from paramedics with the South Central Ambulance trust.

Police said one lane was closed, approaching the Fishbourne roundabout from Havant, while ongoing assessment of any injuries was carried out.

“There will be traffic delaying in the area until the situation is resolved,” said a spokeswoman.

Meanwhile, traffic appears to be running normally along the A259 at Merston after an earlier accident.

Both Hampshire and West Sussex fire crews were called to the A27 crash.

Queues are being reported back to the Emsworth junction from near to Chichester, with drivers warned to avoid the area if at all possible
