Update: Boy, 3, injured as he crossed road

A three-year-old boy was taken to hospital with a broken leg after an accident on a zebra crossing in Crawley.

Emergency services were called to the junction of Southgate Avenue and Ashdown Drive on Thursday (November 14) at 4.20pm after the boy – who was with an adult – was injured crossing the road on his tricycle.

It was reported that a passing car clipped the bike and the boy suffered an “obvious leg injury”.

A spokesman for the South East Coast Ambulance Service said: “He was treated by the ambulance crew and taken as a priority to East Surrey Hospital.”

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “A blue Vauxhall Corsa was turning right out of Ashdown Drive when it collided with a three-year-old boy on a tricycle.

“The 22-year-old woman driving the car was uninjured.”
