Police said a Honda Civic left the road and collided with a tree.

A 21-year-old man from Storrington, who was driving the car, and his passenger, a 20-year-old woman from Billingshurst, were pronounced dead at the scene, officers added.

The road was closed for four hours while police investigated the incident and the vehicle was removed.

Inspector Stewart Goodwin said: “We are appealing to anyone who was in the area and who saw what happened to get in touch.

“Witnesses can email collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting Operation Highmoor.”
