‘Pony Tails’ has been released by Pulborough publisher Forelock Books, and features four stories written by the Wisborough Green actress.

“It’s been an absolute delight to do. These stories are based on the native ponies that we used to have when my daughter was little, and I’d always wanted a pony when I was very small. So when we moved to Sussex we had a field and that’s when we started,” said the 73-year-old.

Sue’s stories star four different native ponies - Connemara, Welsh Cob, Shetland and Exmoor.

The stories were originally written by Sue for audio some years before, but this is the first time they have been published together in a book.

Founder of Forelock Books Michelle Charman said it has been ‘wonderful’ working with Sue.

People who are established and well known have been the easiest to get hold of,” said Michelle.

A former Penguin Books employee, Michelle settled in Pulborough to launch her own equestrian-inspired publishing agency after noticing a gap in the market.

“Shops want things that will fly off the shelves like biographies, so pony stories don’t get published,” she added.

Forelock Books has published six titles by different authors, including K.M. Peyton, creator of the ‘Flambards’ series.

Sue said: “I’ve got some more ideas for stories, which may include a character going to America briefly.”
