Two separate collisions have taken place on the same part of the A23 at Handcross this afternoon (Friday May 23).

At about 12pm, a collision on the A23 northbound caused slow traffic in that direction. All lanes have since been re-opened.

Just before 12.30pm emergency services were called to a separate four vehicle collision on the A23 southbound.

A spokesperson for West Sussex Fire and Rescue service said crews have received reports of injuries.

A woman has been taken to hospital by ambulance.

PC Mark Botevyle, Road Policing, said: “There was a five vehicle collision in which fortunately no one was injured on the southbound carriageway; a two vehicle crash northbound along with a broken down car nearby. I want to thank motorists for their patience while we dealt with the incidents as quickly as we could.”
