A TRADITIONAL steam fair will be held at the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum on August 15 and 16.

Full-size and model steam engines will be on display and working around the museum’s 40-acre site, which is set in the South Downs National Park.

There will also be a wide range of exhibits, including commercial vehicles, military vehicles, miniature steam engines, narrow-gauge railways, model boats, and classic cars.

In addition, the Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club will be hosting their Portsmouth region annual event at the show.

A galloper riding device, powered by a Fowler showman’s steam engine, will also be at the event at the centre of a small traditional vintage fairground.

Visitors to the show can also take a ride on the narrow-gauge steam railway around the edge of the millpond, and enjoy displays in the events field arena, which will include the ‘steer and steam engine’ event and the St Giles horse-drawn steam fire engine.

Richard Pailthorpe, museum director, said: “Many of the marvellous vehicles on display have been lovingly restored
and reflect how transport has evolved since the beginning of the 20th century.

“This event focuses on the fascinating power of steam,
and entertainment for all the family will be provided through a range of demonstrations and arena displays.”

The Vintage and Steam event will be open from 10.30am-5pm, and standard museum admission includes entry to the event.
