Now, this week’s subject is a tricky one. It’s - erm - ahh - uhm. Oh dear. Hmmm. What do I write?
That’s a problem a lot of website owners and small businesses face. You have a website, but no idea what to put on each of the pages. It may be a brand new website, or it could be an established one that needs a revamp.
It may have the best design in the world, but it is nothing without good content. The trouble is, what do you write and how can you be inspired to write great content that people will want to read?
So, while I uhm and ah and ponder what the next line should be, think on this… Everyone gets a mental block at some point in their lives.
I am sure it has happened to you. Perhaps you were writing an essay at school, or maybe a letter to a friend, or to put it into today’s context, an e-mail!

A good starting point is to think about what other people may be searching for. Are they looking for information about a particular service?
Would they appreciate a tutorial or explanation of something? If you are writing a blog post for instance, think in terms of the questions that people may ask and try to answer them!
Do some searches online and see if any of those questions have been answered before. Did they answer your questions completely, or do you think you can answer them better?
It’s not all about words either. To make a striking web page you really need to consider what pictures to include too. A good picture definitely grabs the attention of someone visiting the page.
Videos are also a good way to grab attention. Perhaps that tutorial or introduction you were writing could do with an accompanying YouTube video to back it up?
If your page is about something physical or practical, then a video is an obvious choice. You can also use videos to add a bit of flare to topics people may otherwise find dry or difficult to absorb.
If you are still struggling to find the right words, talk to people to get ideas. If you don’t trust your own writing skills, think about employing a professional copywriter.
