The Mayor of Crawley has planned a fundraising spectacular to round off his year in office.
Cllr Keith Blake will launch the Mayorathon in Tilgate Park on Saturday (May 4) from 10am-5pm to raise cash for his chosen charity, Crawley District Scouts.
Scouts, guides and young members of local organisations will hike round Tilgate Lake as many times as they can, while completing a challenge at the end of each lap.
The 15 challenges will include seeing how far they can row in a canoe simulator, puzzles and the intriguingly named Vortex Canon.
All money raised by the hikers will be split between the Mayor’s charity and their own group or organisation.
While the youngsters walk, there will be plenty of activities on the slope leading to the lake including bouncy castles, a climbing wall and a dog show.
Cllr Blake said: “When I became mayor and was looking for a significant event that would be lucrative as far as the charity went, we were looking for something to do with the Scouts that would make a big splash.
“I would love to raise £5,000 or more. If every child taking part raises £10 in sponsorship, that’s £2,500 already.”
