Another fantastic year of fun was had by all at Steyning Grammar School’s Winter Fair, which was held on Saturday.
This was the 24th year of the Winter Fair, which has become a well known social event in the local calendar, getting bigger and better each year.
Around 1,000 people attended this year’s event, which as well as being a real community event is also attracting many families from further afield. It was really good to see so many people of all ages, despite the weather, having such a good time. The Winter Fair was once again a huge success raising a fantastic £7,800 for the school.
The main hall was really busy all day, with Steyning Grammar School’s very talented musicians providing entertainment throughout the day, along with an assist dog demonstration on stage from Canine Partners.
The festive aroma of mulled wine and mince pies filled the room. The ‘Santa’s Grotto’ run by our year 12 students was really popular, especially a photo with Santa.
The Grand Draw and Auction were big fund raisers, and the classrooms were filled with quality stall holders selling a huge array of goods including scarves, bags, clothes, toys, wooden products, and fabulous Christmas gifts.
Outside roast chestnuts added a winter atmosphere and the bouncy castle entertained the children.
Once again the Steyning Grammar School Boarders ran a stall selling non-alcoholic mulled punch alongside the Friends Mulled wine. The Heritage Quilt Project was on display for all to see in the Learning Centre. This is a major piece of heritage work in the making to produce five quilt panels in celebration of the school’s 400th anniversary year.
Crawford Murray, Chair for The Friends of Steyning Grammar School said ‘On behalf of Friends of Steyning Grammar School I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone that supported this event and helped to make it such a successful day.
Thank you to those that helped organise the event, the local businesses that have supported us and to all the teachers and students that gave up their weekend, and of course to the people that came along on the day.
Raising so much money is just the icing on the cake, and every penny of this will be used to buy some extra equipment for the school, which will ultimately benefit students for many years to come.”
“Once again, our parents and carers behind the Friends of Steyning Grammar School have hosted a fantastic event.
A great deal of work and commitment has gone into making this such a special day, both in terms of the community atmosphere and the funds it raised. Thank you to all of you and to our very many visitors, and to the staff who supported this event too. I have also to thank the massive efforts by our students, including our Boarders, in supporting the event.
Next years Winter Fair, will be held on Saturday 21st November 2014. If you would like to book a stall please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
