As an outstanding school, we are thrilled to be celebrating winning Investors in Careers status for the sixth time running. This Award has now been held since 1999 and is testament to the hard work and dedication of the students and staff here at The Weald.
The Award is a quality standard for the management of Careers Education and Guidance (CEG) in Schools and FE Colleges and is now the most widely used quality award of its kind, recognized nationally across the country. The use of an independent external assessor gives the award special credence.
This is indeed impressive, as since the last award date three years ago, Careers Education in general has again seen many significant changes on a national scale. Our staff have worked hard to embrace these developments by coming up with innovative ideas to support all their students in their choice of future career options.
The Assessor was in the school on 16th March, to see how much of an impact some of those changes have had. Conversations held with staff and students on the day, demonstrated that there are many excellent things happening in careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG) at The Weald School, and we are always working on ways to improve and develop these too.
We were really pleased that the Iic Assessor was particularly impressed with our well-planned, differentiated and varied programme of careers education and events available to all students. Our hunger for improvement and innovation, our excellent communication and teamwork - both internally and externally , and with outside providers. She also commented on our well-developed links with local businesses and employers.
On the day, the Assessor met with members of the Senior Leadership Team including Mr Woodman and Mrs Edwards, along with our Careers Manager Mrs Wilson, Business Manager with responsibility for Careers - Mrs Durham, Mrs Smith – Teacher with Careers responsibility, PD teachers, Students from across KS3 & KS4 and our outgoing Link Governor Patrick Perks and our incoming Link Governor John Griffin. She was delighted with the hospitality extended to her by all and extremely impressed with the support and team effort approach the management team and governors have towards the careers department and indeed, to careers education as a whole.
A significant strength of the careers programme, as seen by the Assessor, was the involvement of parents, governors and a range of local employers who give their time to support the Careers work in the school.
She commented that such commitment is to be highly praised and is a further demonstration of the importance The Weald places in raising aspirations for all of its students and how successful the school is in achieving these goals. We are very grateful to all our parents, governors and local links for the great support they give us and hope that they will celebrate this award as we do.
