Tesco temporarily closes after bird crashes into window

FIREFIGHTERS were called to secure a large pane of glass hanging loose above the entrance to a Tesco Express in Worthing.

The store, in Chapel Road, was temporarily closed at around 12.15pm today as police and the fire brigade worked to make a broken window on the second floor of the building safe.

It is believed the window was smashed after a bird flew into it.

Hollie Wild, an estate agent at Your Move, saw the incident unfold.

She said: “The birds have been going in and out of the property for weeks. I was across the street when it happened. The bird got away safely.”

No one was hurt and the emergency services left the scene around 12.30pm.

Tesco is open as usual.
