A dog lover and his four-legged friend walked away with a top prize at this year’s Crufts on what was the 125th anniversary of the world’s largest dog show.
Robin Alner, who lives in Tangmere, and two-year-old Otterhound Maeve fought off competition from a host of other dogs to scoop the coveted Best of Breed award.
And after seeing his waggy-tailed partner put his best paw forward at the prestigious show last week, Robin was left beaming with pride at his and Maeve’s performance in the West Midlands.
“I really can’t believe it, this is the first time I have handled him and it is my first ticket so I am over the moon, I cannot describe how happy I am,” he said.
“His sister was the reserve bitch and his brother got a ticket so it is a bit of a family affair.
“Crufts is the best dog competition in the world in my opinion, there is nothing quite like it.”
Nearly 22,000 dogs took part at Birmingham’s NEC.
