Tales of billy goats and friends in puppet show

THREE billy goats will be entertaining audience members at a puppet show in Steyning on Saturday, November 16.

Theatre of Widdershins is presenting Three Billy Goats Gruff and Other Furry Tales at 2.30pm at Steyning Primary School, Shooting Field site, in aid of Steyning Festival 2014.

A regular at the Edinburgh Festival, the 16-year-old company was founded by Andy Lawrence, a former BBC costume maker, who creates the shows and all the puppets himself.

Andy said: “I have always loved making things and I have always loved illustrated fairy tales.

“Puppetry always seemed like a great way of combining art, making things, stories, spectacle, music and theatre.

“I remember performing a puppet show to my parents, when I was about seven.

“Most of my puppets are made from a combination of materials. I usually make the head from latex which involves sculpting in clay, making a plaster mould, casting latex and then painting.

“The bodies are usually made from jointed wood or even from rubber.”

Tickets are £5.50 and available from Steyning Bookshop, 106 High Street, or call 01903 812062.
