The children at Holy Innocents Playgroup, Southwater, recently found out who had won their annual sunflower growing competition.
Earlier in the year, the children had planted sunflower seeds within a playgroup session, and later when the seeds had grown into healthy seedlings, everyone bought a plant for 50p to take home and grow, to see who could grow the tallest sunflower.
The deadline dawned and winner of the tallest sunflower competition was a 261 cm tall specimen, grown by 4yr old Sam Abrehart who received a £20 prize.
Second Prize was won by Lily Bray-Lovekin aged 3yrs who grew a sunflower 230cm tall. Lily won £10.
Third prize was won by Lauren Everard aged 3yrs who received £5 for her sunflower which was 215 cm. Each winner also received a certificate.
Well done to all who took part.
