Street party planned to celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday

A street party to celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday is one of three projects set to take place in the Bentswood area of Haywards Heath this summer following a cash award.

Social housing provider Affinity Sutton has given a £5,000 grant to The Bentswood Community Partnership to enable them to run the projects aimed at improving the quality of life in the area.

Along with the street party in June, the community partnership is planning a community fun day in August wtih a range of stalls, competitions and activities.

Another project involves trying to build greater community pride through a mass community tidy-up in the spring with restoration work to an area blighted by anti-social behaviour.

Affinity Sutton spokesperson Nicky Doddssaid: “Our community grants programme has really lived up to its name and given the Bentswood Community Partnership the opportunity to do even more to foster community pride and resident engagement in Bentswood.”

And Stephen Hiller, chairman of the partnership, added: “The BCP has been coordinating the work of a range of agencies in Bentswood for a number of years. We now have a growing band of lovely, committed residents on board which is enabling us to run our own projects.”
