Steyning mum is running a marathon to raise thousands for her local school.

Joan Lennon who is an active member of the Steyning Athletic Club and mother of two, volunteered to run the Brighton Marathon in April to raise funds for Steyning Grammar School’s trust.

“Both my girls went to that school,” said Joan. “I think it’s important to raise the profile of their charity because not many people know about it.”

The Steyning Millennium Trust grants bursaries to students who show supreme personal efforts and help them further their education.

Mrs Lennon continued: “Running is a big part of my life. I’ve been doing it since 1980 and been a member of Steyning Athletic Club since 1992, but I haven’t run many marathons.”

Hoping to raise £3,000, Mrs Lennon is currently in training to prepare for the big day on April 14.

“I’m not worried about whether I can do it, I’m more worried about getting injured. That’s the only thing that could stop me.”
