Billy Elliot, with music by Elton John and a book by Lee Hall, is set during the turbulent miners’ strikes of the 1980s and follows the story of a young working class boy discovering his passion for dance against a backdrop of political and social turmoil. The iconic leading role of Billy is being tackled by Year Nine student, Ed Hooper.

The show is being co-directed by Jan Hobson, a former teacher and current school governor, and Alex Packer, a former student at the school.

Alex said: “Having worked on the last five musicals at the school, this is by far the most ambitious to-date. It’s a huge show, full of big characters, powerful drama and massive dance numbers. It’s a very exciting challenge working alongside a brilliant production team and a very enthusiastic and talented group of young performers.”

This production includes some fantastic dance sequences and has been choreographed by former student Sophie Whittle.
