AIR Cadets from Steyning had a busy weekend with activities marking Remembrance Sunday.

Saturday saw 16 cadets and staff from 1140 (Steyning) Sqn ATC washing cars at Mayberry Garden Centre, Portslade, raising £202 for the Poppy Appeal and squadron funds.

Throughout the six-hour annual car wash, the cadets worked tirelessly. Most of the cars were from repeat customers, who have been impressed by the cadets’ work in previous years.

On Sunday, 32 cadets from the squadron paraded from their HQ to St Andrew and St Cuthman Church, Steyning, via High Street and the War Memorial in Church Street.

Flt Lt Dave Emsley, officer commanding Steyning Air Cadets, carried an RAF Sword, which was recently presented by Robert Pooley of Pooley Swords, Shoreham.

He said: “It was a great honour to have been presented with the sword. The cadets were very smarty turned out and it only added to the occasion to have a sword on parade.”

The cadets provided escorts for the standards and Cadet Connor Bond laid a wreath on behalf of the squadron.

Air Cadets are aged 12 to 17. Steyning Squadron parades Tuesday and Thursday nights, 7pm to 9.30pm. Call 01903 813113 or email oc.1140@aircadets.org for more details.

The squadron is also in need of more staff, to enable more activities to be run for the cadets.
