The 1st and 7th Chichester Guides threw themselves into winter camping during one of the coldest months of the year, as they pitched their tent on February 4 to 5 at Foxlease, Girlguiding’s activity centre near Lyndhurst.

The girls - 16 Girl Guides and three Senior Section girls - took on different activities during the day, trying the likes of archery, zorbing and survival skills, building their confidence in the process.

Izzy McIlwrath, aged 11, said: “I liked that they had a variety of activities that you could do, and that you were always really busy. In the evening we had a disco in a teepee and fireworks which were really cool!

“The ice skating was my favourite, we went six times! I’m really looking forward to our big camp this summer!”

Daisy Barclay, also aged 11, said: “I really enjoyed the sparkle and ice camp because It was a new experience of camping in the extreme conditions of February. I especially enjoyed the zorbing as this was something I wouldn’t have been able to experience otherwise.”
