SNOW is continuing to bring chaos across West Sussex today (Friday January 18) with a string of road accidents, school closures and travel disruption.
Police are still warning drivers not to take to the roads unless their journey is absolutely necessary.
Meanwhile, a number of visitor attractions throughout the county have announced their closure. Arundel Wetland Centre is closed, Petworth House is closed and will remain shut over the weekend.
Also closed now and over the weekend is Pallant House Gallery in Chichester. Its planned ‘open day’ tomorrow has been cancelled.
There will be no shows at the Hawth Theatre in Crawley tonight as it is shutting its doors at 6pm. KT Leisure Centre in Crawley is also closing tonight at 8pm.
Meanwhile, The Novium in Chichester is to close at 2.30 pm this afternoon, but hopes to re-open at 10am tomorrow.
Car parks at the South Downs National Park at Buster Hill and Queen Elizabeth Country Park are closed but hope to re-open tomorrow.
Train travel has been disrupted with Southern operating restricted timetables.The runway at Gatwick is currently open, but there is disruption to some flights.
Despite worsening road conditions, the WRVS says it is making sure it delivers meals on wheels throughout the county and that volunteers are still helping to get people to hospital appointments.
Both Arun District Council and Chichester District Council have suspended refuse collections because of ‘dangerous’ road conditions.
Driving conditions across the county have become extremely difficult with ice, snow and accidents blocking major and minor routes.
The A29 at Slindon is closed following an accident involving an oil tanker and van.
There has been queueing traffic in both directions between the A27 junction and the B2132 Shellbridge Road junction.
There are hazardous driving conditions on the A27 Chichester bypass in Chichester at the A259 Fishbourne Road (West) junction, because of snow.
The A29 in Bury is blocked in both directions between Whiteways Lodge Roundabout and The Hollow junction, because of ice and snow.
