SLIDESHOW: No triumphant return to Hassocks dugout for John

There was to be no triumphant return to the Hassocks dugout for Dave John as his third spell in charge at the Beacon began with a 2-1 defeat against Pagham.

The Lions have traditionally found the visit to the Beacon a tough one with just one victory in their previous 13 visits prior to this, including last season’s spectacular 6-1 hammering.

And in all fairness they probably should have extended that barren sequence with the home camp feeling that a draw would have been a fair result, the only real difference between the two sides being the visitors looking livelier going forward thanks in part to their strike partnership of Scott Murfin and Rob Wimble.
