OCTOBER is a busy month for the Royal British Legion’s Steyning branch and women’s section, starting with the launch of the Poppy Appeal.
Branch members manned a stall at Steyning Farmers’ Market on October 5 and many people stopped to make donations.
On Saturday, the women’s section is hosting an autumn buffet at the Steyning Centre at midday. Tickets are £7 from Steyning Butchers and Chris Morgan, fishmonger, in High Street.
Fundraising continues with a two-course supper on Wednesday at The Sussex Produce Company, starting at 7pm. Tickets are 19.95 from the store, with £5 per ticket and raffle proceeds going to the Poppy Appeal.
Street collections take place in High Street on Friday, November 8, and Saturday, November 9, and the Service of Remembrance will be on Sunday, November 10, at St Andrew and St Cuthman Church at 10.45am.
A short service and wreath laying will take place at Steyning Memorial Garden at 10.45am on Monday, November 11.
Publicity officer Pam Perceval-Maxwell said: “As well as the conventional paper poppies and the small wooden crosses, the branch has a limited number of Star of David and Muslim Crescent complete with poppies.”
