Horsham District Council has named the rising star Helena Croft as deputy leader of the council this morning (Tuesday).
Leader of the council Ray Dawe confirmed that Mrs Croft (Con, Roffey North), who was elected in May 2010, was unopposed for the position of the new deputy leader of the Conservative group at HDC. In this role she automatically becomes deputy leader of the council.
The appointment comes after former deputy leader and cabinet member for efficiency and resources Roger Arthur defected to the UKIP Independence Party therefore giving up his cabinet roles.
Helena Croft has been the cabinet member for Horsham town, communications and special project for just over a year.
Mr Dawe (Con, Chantry) said: “I am absolutely delighted that Helena is to become Deputy Leader. She has proven herself to be an excellent cabinet member and she has been a loyal and most helpful support to me.
“I am sure she will bring her usual determination and strategic thinking to her new role.”
