A MAN has been warned by police for dumping litter on council-owned land.

Police received a report that a man was dumping rubbish at Highdown Gardens, Littlehampton Road, Goring, at 11am on Monday.

The man was taking the litter from National Trust land at the top of Highdown Hill and putting it on council-owned land near Highdown Towers.

PCSO Gary Morgan said he had spoken to the man and was told that he was clearing woodland near to where he lived and putting the rubbish he had collected onto the land at Highdown Hill to highlight the problem of litter. PCSO Morgan said: “I told him that although his actions may be honourable it was not the best course of action to take. I warned him the council, which owns the land, could prosecute him for fly tipping.”

Worthing councillor Keith Sunderland witnessed the incident and described the man’s actions as laudable but bizarre.
