HOSTILE party-goers set upon police as a gatecrashed birthday party descended into chaos in Fishersgate last night (Saturday, February 28).
Several arrests were made after officers were ‘bundled’ and ‘goaded’ when called to deal with the out of control party at the Fishersgate Community Centre at around 11pm.
It was scary because we were thinking ‘what is the place going to be left like’ just because of these mindless idiots.Peter Averillo, chairman of Fishersgate Community Association
Reporting the events on social media, special constable Chris Dowling said: “On arrival the crowd was anti and organisers wanted it shut down. A male assaulted a PCSO who was promptly arrested and taken to the floor.
“We were then bundled. Hit my emergency button along with few others and we had multiple units assist.
“Multiple arrests made. Great to see such teamwork tonight. Thankfully no serious injuries to any officers.”
The centre had been hired out for a teenager’s birthday party but it is believed gatecrashers turned up after spotting the event being advertised on Facebook.
Chairman of the Fishersgate Community Association Peter Averillo said minor damage had been caused and it was fortunate this morning’s youth football match had been cancelled, due to a waterlogged pitch.
“It was scary because we were thinking ‘what is the place going to be left like’ just because of these mindless idiots. They had no consideration for anybody around. That is the unfortunate part but it’s part of life nowadays.”
Mr Averillo praised police for showing the ‘upmost restraint’ in dealing with the crowd, which were ‘goading’ and shouting at them.
A new policy will be implemented by trustees in future, to make sure at least five adults over the age of 30 attended such parties.
The police out of hours service had no further information on the incident.
