A national problem with the 101 police telephone number is affecting around three-quarters of the country’s forces today (Saturday, November 22).
The fault, which does not affect the 999 emergency service, is expected to continue into Saturday afternoon.
Inspector Andy Kille from Sussex Police said: “Unfortunately, callers using the 101 number are getting a ringing tone, but there is no indication that there is a fault and the calls aren’t being received by our call handlers.
“However, if you really need to contact us now, you can do so by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org, using the Report Online link on the front page of our website www.sussex.police.uk or by telephoning 01273 470101 or 01273 475432.
“The 999 service isn’t affected and if you have an emergency please don’t hesitate to use it. However, please do not use it for non-emergency calls.”
