THE launch of walking netball at the Phoenix 50+ Club proved so popular, it is to continue on a weekly basis.

The club is normally based at Worthing Leisure Centre, but it has introduced walking netball at Field Place, just around the corner.

Co-ordinator Jeanie Dickenson said: “Members of the Phoenix 50+ Club have embarked on yet another adventurous activity, in the form of walking netball at Field Place.

“It was a well-supported and successful event, even if participants did find it hard to restrict their enthusiasm to the ‘walking’ ethos.

“It was voted to continue this weekly lunchtime fun, from 12.30pm to 1.30pm on Fridays, at a nominal Phoenix concession fee.”

The walking netball was supervised by Jenni Heirock and Danielle Huet, staff members with the recently-launched Southdown Leisure.

Jeanie added: “We have been told there are further ‘walking’ activities in the Phoenix pipeline – walking basketball and track walking.

“Maybe there will be a 50-plus walking Olympics to follow!”

Walking football is already established at Worthing Leisure Centre, in Shaftesbury Avenue, Worthing.

The Phoenix Club is for the over-50s and members meet most Fridays for fitness, health and friendship, enjoying a wide range of sports and leisure activities.
