The RSPCA has appealed for information after a three-year-old cat was found shot dead in playing fields in Bewbush.
The pet cat was found in playing fields near Nesbit Court on the morning of Monday 10 June.
The cat – a female called Mushroom (pictured), whose owners live near the playing fields - was taken to a vet in Horsham who confirmed that the animal had been shot in the throat and suspected that her neck had also been broken.
RSPCA Inspector Kate Barnes said: “This beautiful cat has been shot and killed and we want to find out who is responsible. It is heartbreaking for the family.
“We would like to hear from anyone who saw someone with an airgun or with this cat sometime on Monday morning.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact the RSPCA, in confidence, on 0300 123 8018 where they can leave a message for Kate Barnes.
