THE imminent closure of a long-standing children’s nursery has upset parents.

Squirrels Nursery, in Lyndhurst Road, Worthing, will close its doors on December 31, forcing parents to search for alternative childcare before the new year.

The nursery, which is run by Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, was formed in 1990 to help NHS staff find affordable, flexible childcare close to the hospital. The trust estimates that it would need to spend £112,000 in the next year to keep the nursery open.

Mother-of-two Agnieszka Kaja, 33, of King Edward Avenue, Worthing, attended a meeting at the nursery, on Thursday, to discuss the trust’s decision.

Mrs Kaja said: “The meeting was really passionate and emotional. All parents felt really strongly about it. We all felt it shouldn’t have happened this way.”
