LONELY Sundays are a thing of the past in Steyning, thanks to the launch of a new lunch club.
Impact Initiatives launched the Sunday Lunch Club at the Dingemans Centre, in Shooting Field, on March 17 and it is already proving a tremendous success.
Donna Bailey, advocacy worker and older people’s service manager, said: “Customers have said how great the food and the friendly atmosphere are, and that it is a chance to meet up with friends and have a tasty home-cooked Sunday lunch.
“They have said that it breaks up what can sometimes be a lonely day for them and is ideal when they do not feel like cooking for themselves.”
The Dingemans Centre is part of Impact Initiatives, a registered charity, and is run in association with West Sussex County Council.
The new lunch club will be running every Sunday, apart from Easter Sunday, from noon until 2pm.
It is open to everyone aged 55 plus, who are welcome to go along and make new friends.
“A traditional two-course Sunday lunch is cooked and served in a relaxed and welcoming environment,” said Donna.
“It’s reasonably priced, at £7.50 for a main course, a dessert and a drink – all freshly prepared and cooked at Dingemans.”
As well as the paid cook, Sonia Huxtable, there is a team of six volunteers, who Donna said are brilliant helpers.
Booking is advisable, as the lunch club is already very popular.
