A new netball club is set to launch in Horsham thanks to the support of Horsham District Council’s sports development team.

This new club is set to start running in Horsham to provide young netballers in the town with a great opportunity to improve and have fun. Initially it will be looking to work with 8 to 12 year olds but in time it is hoped that this age range will expand.

The club’s home will be Collyer’s Sixth Form College which has just benefitted from improvements to its sports facilities funded by the council, Sport England and other local contributors.

It will have access to two newly floodlit outdoor netball courts and the indoor court in the adjoining sports hall. The college has excellent parking facilities to make it easy for parents to drop off and pick up their children.

Head coach is the vastly experienced Michelle Peckham and she will be ably supported by assistant Tracey Giblett so there will be no shortage of know-how and enthusiasm to draw the best out of players. The club will also engage leaders from Collyer’s sports student ranks as part of its growth plans.

The council’s sports development team is providing the club with initial guidance and support.

Cllr Jonathan Chowen, Horsham District Council Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture said: “Local primary schools generate a high volume of netball activity but in the past we have lacked a junior club in Horsham to fully capitalise on it. Everything is now in place with great coaches and facilities to build a set-up that changes that situation.”

Horsham Community Netball Club will initially run on Wednesdays 5.30-6.30pm in term time only.

t starts on Wednesday November 11 and further information is available from www.hdsd.org.uk or by contacting Ian.ford@horsham.gov.uk or 07764 146338.
