The user led, not-for-profit organisation supporting disabled people and carers in West Sussex has been re-launched with a new name, new look and exciting future vision.
It’s goodbye Independent Living Association (ILA) – hello Independent Lives.
Following an in-depth review of the ILA’s identity, strategic aims and mission, the organisation has been re-branded and was officially launched at the AGM on 3rd October 2013.
Independent Lives’ head of policy and communications Nicky Kentell said: “We believe the new branding and vision will give us a broader platform to support disabled people to live independent lives.
“The new name reflects our role in supporting disabled people to engage in their local communities and to participate equally in education, employment, the arts, sport, politics, social and civic life – all things which our members tell us are very important to them for living a fulfilling, independent life.”
The changes followed consultations with members, customers, staff and other stakeholders, and the new look was developed with the help of creative partners Strawberry Soup.
The re-branding has included a complete restructuring of the website, which has been fully modernised and made more accessible. It is a key platform for communicating with members and partners, and will continue to be developed as a major information resource and engagement tool.

Along with the new identity comes a change of legal status. Independent Lives is a company limited by guarantee as well as being a registered charity, and by an AGM resolution it has taken over the assets and liabilities of the former ILA.
