CARERS in Rustington and surrounding areas are invited to tour a new resources centre.

The aim is to offer support to all residents aged over 55 and their carers, prompted by recent changes in the Care Act 2015.

The new Forget Me Not Resource Centre is within Fairlight Nursing Home, Old Manor Road, Rustington.

Lynne Smith, day centre co ordinator, said: “The long awaited resources centre will be offering quality care and access to community services.

“For several years, Rustington and the surrounding area have had very limited community services for the over-55s and their carers. They have had to travel to Worthing, Chichester and other areas. Incurring high travel costs, and with the immense increase of local traffic, time is the essence in getting from one area to another.”

An open day is being held on Friday, July 3, from 10am to 2pm, offering the chance to meet many local support teams like fire officers, Red Assure community alarms and police officers. Free refreshments will be available.

Lynne added: “Our aims and promise is to focus on carers and their needs, where their loved ones can go for a day, evening, or the first time ever, weekend. This service will be vital during family holidays, outings or in a crisis situation.

“Carers will have the opportunity for support group meetings. We aim to support what carers feel are vital services to assist them with caring roles.”

Day care will include individual pampering services, outings and different fun activities. There is a door-to-door collection available.

An information booklet is being prepared with updated contact information for emergency services, surgery and general local services, as well as advice options.
