Potholes can be fixed quicker if more detailed information is given to West Sussex County Council by residents.
The public can use the council’s online form love.westsussex.gov.uk to report potholes and other defects.
To shorten the time between the pothole being reported and it being fixed it needs to know the exact location, nearby landmarks to identify where it is, the size, and a photo.
John O’Brien, WSCC’s cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “When reporting defects the more information you can send us, the quicker it makes our job.
“We look after almost 2,500 miles of road, so we rely on people’s help to report defects when they see them.
“Precise information at the start helps us save so much time.”
It has also changed the way pothole reports are managed by the contact centre so as many enquiries as possible can be dealt with at the source.
The customer service hub will assess reports and if enough information is provided it can arrange repairs.
This means that highway officers need to make fewer site visits to find out where the pothole is and whether it needs repairing.
Last month 345 jobs were raised by the hub, freeing up an estimated 172 hours of officer time to spend on urgent enquiries.
