A town’s mayor has asked for people to observe the silence for our war dead.

Burgess Hill’s 11.11.11 commemoration will be held at 11am on Monday at the war memorial, with two minutes silence.

It is being organised by the Royal British Legion and Burgess Hill Town Council.

Motorists are being asked to respect the occasion and refrain from passing the War Memorial during the silence.

Chris Thomas-Atkin, Town Mayor said: “I hope as many people as possible will be able to give 2 minutes silence in remembrance of those who gave everything”.

A spokesman for the Royal British Legion said:“We are pleased to be joining forces with the Town Council again this year to mark 11/11/11. Any ex-service men or women who would like to take part are very welcome to join us”.

As part of the commemoration a plaque will be unveiled remembering animals who were killed in war.
